Mission
To protect Valladolid's night sky as natural heritage, reducing light pollution and promoting sustainable lighting practices. We work so that future generations can enjoy a starry sky.
The Valladolid Astrotourism Association (Astroval) is an organisation dedicated to protecting the night sky and promoting sustainable astronomical tourism in the province of Valladolid.
To protect Valladolid's night sky as natural heritage, reducing light pollution and promoting sustainable lighting practices. We work so that future generations can enjoy a starry sky.
To be the reference for astrotourism in Castile and León, building a network of certified establishments and observation points that offer quality astronomical experiences in harmony with the environment.
Four lines of work that reinforce each other: measuring, certifying, advising and sharing.
Astroval runs a certification programme for establishments and observation points, with three quality levels: Bronze, Silver and Gold. Each level represents a greater commitment to protecting the night sky.
We carry out technical audits to measure sky quality using professional equipment such as SQM photometers, all-sky cameras and spectrophotometers. Our measurements follow international sky-protection standards.
We promote smart lighting based on five pillars: usefulness, directionality, intensity, spectrum and timing. We advise companies and public bodies on implementing sustainable lighting systems.
We organise outreach and training activities to bring astronomy to the wider public and raise awareness of the importance of preserving our dark skies.
The principles that guide our daily work protecting the night sky.
Absolute dedication to protecting our celestial heritage.
Rigorous technical standards in every certification we issue.
Promoting lighting practices that respect the environment.
Clear, accessible processes for all our members.
Whether you are an astronomy enthusiast or run an establishment interested in astrotourism, we will be glad to help.
